Teachers: Demand An End To Detention of Immigrant Children!

All kids deserve an education.
All kids deserve to reach their potential.
All kids deserve to be free.
Join Teachers against Child Detention and call for an end to child detention immediately!

At this moment, innocent children are being locked up by U.S. immigration authorities.

Detention of children violates their fundamental rights and can cause irreparable damage to their well-being and development. Children belong free from detention, with loved ones who can care for them.

Child detention is a problem, not a solution!

Substantial evidence shows that detention frequently damages the mental health and development of children, from infancy through teenage years. Harmful effects on children's mental health are often persistent, severe, and can occur even after short periods of detention. The United States should not detain children when they are fleeing abuse, war, or violence. These children have the right to asylum under both U.S. and international law.

These children and their families pose no threat to anyone!

The Trump Administration is trying to change the rules that ensure migrant children in government custody are treated humanely and released quickly. Instead, the Trump Administration wants to be able to jail children indefinitely and roll back already-minimal standards for how it treats children in its custody.

If you believe all children deserve to live together with their families and free of fear, sign this petition now!

As teachers, our life's work is protecting and nurturing children.
Immigrant children are being harmed by our government. We refuse to allow this to continue.
