Show demand for Roanoke County (VA) Parks and Recreation Department to designate/build one or more off-leash dog parks or park sections in the Roanoke County Parks system.

Residents of and visitors to Roanoke County (VA) have no off-leash dog parks available within the jurisdiction of Roanoke County. County citizens in search of off-leash exercise for their pet canines must use either limited and somewhat overused facilities in the City of Salem (1 dog park) or City of Roanoke (2 dog park) or violate the law in existing parks. County staff says it surveyed citizenry in the past and there was minimal interest, plus cited funding and maintenance challenges. Meanwhile, the County has allowed for one equestrian center (Green Hill) and now apparently another (Explore). Other progressive communities seem to have had no issue or have overcome the cited issues. Available dog parks are an attraction for new businesses and younger tax-paying citizens. Therefore, the undersigned residents of Roanoke County show their support and demand for the creation of one or more off-leash dog parks or park sections in Roanoke County.

Update #15 years ago
Good news! RoCo Parks/Rec agreed to identify locations for a Roanoke County dog park and recently reported that groups previously using the baseball/softball fields at Garst Mill Park have agree to forfeit those locations. Now, WE need to put together a written plan for a dog park. Some of this will require volunteers, b/c it's too late this year to get budget funding.
