Jimmy the calf was taken from his mother within minutes on a Connecticut dairy farm. Then at just 21 days old, his time was up. And that's when we got the emergency call.
"Say goodbye because he won't be here next time."
That's what Jimmy's captor said. He was about to sell the doomed calf as "low-grade" beef. These kinds of stories are unfortunately all too commonplace in our industrial meat production system. Jimmy's story is what led to the creation of Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue.
Today, Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue is home to over 400 (!) residents, including 124 cows, 200 roosters and chickens, 18 pigs, 38 goats, 41 sheep, turkeys, ducks, geese, and 3 donkeys.
Here's what Skylands is all about:
BIG Rescues: We pick up the phone at 2 AM and drive into hurricanes, floods, and disaster zones…anywhere and everywhere when animals need our help.
BIG Recovery: We transport sick, neglected, and scared survivors to our sanctuary. We nurse them back to health with proper veterinary care and lots of love at Skylands!
Exposing Ag Cruelty: We expose the truth. There are SO MANY other Jimmy's out there, and we KNOW how to get that message out.
The truth is we can't do this work without your support. Taking on Big Ag and Animal Cruelty is a tough job, and we need you in our corner. Will you sign today and pledge to defend animals from the worst abuses of factory farms?
