On January 6, our nation saw horrific events unfold on the United States Capitol and for the world to see as armed white supremacist militias attacked a joint session of Congress meeting to count and certify the electoral college results of the 2020 Presidential Election.
These individuals acted under the direction of President Trump, who has breached his oath of office to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States.
President Trump is unfit to serve in the highest office of the land and should be disqualified from running for any political office in the future. We must hold him accountable for his actions via impeachment with disqualification, invocation of the 25th Amendment, or resignation.
The removal of President Trump is not only critical to hold him accountable for his direct attack on our republic, but to also ensure that he is disqualified from running for any elected office in the future.
Contact your Senators and ask them to support the removal of President Trump through impeachment and conviction.
Dear Senator [NAME],
As a member of the League of Women Voters, I am writing to you to call for the removal of President Trump via impeachment with disqualification, invocation of the 25th Amendment, or resignation. Our nation had not witnessed insurrection take place at the United States Capitol since 1812, until last week, when the president incited an armed attack on the People's House.
It is up to you to condemn the President's actions by supporting his impeachment and removal and ensuring this cannot happen again.
The United States Congress gathered on January 6 to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. This ceremonial process, that happens every four years in a joint session of Congress, has been a shining example of our democracy at work and promotes the peaceful transfer of power.
The President is responsible for instigating the armed attack through his incendiary rhetoric and bold-faced lies about the results of the 2020 election. His refusal to concede peacefully, and abandonment of his oath to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution of the United States make him unfit to hold the Office of the President. He must be removed.
The removal of President Trump is not only critical to hold him accountable for his direct attack on our republic, but also to ensure that he is disqualified from running for any elected office in the future.
I ask that you join your colleagues in the House, regardless of political affiliation, to support the impeachment of President Trump and send a message that those who attack our Constitution and democracy have no right to hold office in the United States.
