Stop The Blendon Township Apartments

Here's some notes regarding the proposed South Blendon Vista apartments located on Port Sheldon, just west of 48th, that we would like voted down.

-There will be 204 units and nearly 500 parking spaces.

-There will be Nine 3-story buildings plus an office/maintenance building up front

- The main entrance will be directly across from Rush Creek Meadows entrance and loop around and connect to the new Eagles Landing development.

- The left hand turn lane would extend from Rush Creek Meadows entrance to Rush Creek Crossings entrance.

- It is currently zoned R-2 Medium Density which is for single family detached homes or duplexes. The future/master township plan has it as R-1 Low Density. The developer is asking the planning commission for a special use permit.

- The developer already has an approved development plan by the planning commission for a low density, 2-5 acre per lot, executive housing development. The developer is now seeking the apartments.

- The apartments will be nearly identical to the Valley Vista Apartments in Jamestown shown in the picture. 1 to 2 bedroom apartments with monthly rent $720-$1095.

The planning commission board will cast votes for this. The next planning commission meeting is on 7/10 at 7PM at the Blendon Township Offices. Public comment/questions regarding this is welcome during that time .If you have any feelings towards this I would encourage you to attend that meeting as well as contact the planning commission board any way possible.

You would send letters to...

Planning Commission
7161 72nd Avenue
Hudsonville, MI 49426

All letters will be placed in a packet that they'll receive prior to the meeting. To go an extra step, letters could be addressed to each member of the planning commission as well as phone calls made.

The members of the planning commission are...

Rick Lamer
Terry Huberts
Ron Wind
Jeff DeWind
Jeff Van Eck
Jim Vander Veen
Jason Vander Kodde

Attending the meeting and writing letters will have the greatest impact, but also please sign this petition in effort to show the planning commission the residents do not want these apartments.

Update #45 years ago
The apartment developers are now considering purchasing an additional 25 acre parcel across Port Sheldon from Bradenwood. If they do so, there will most likely be 2 unit town-homes put on it, similar to Valley Vista in Jamestown. As of now the 4 northernmost apartment buildings have been approved. The remaining apartment buildings require a 48th connection.
Update #35 years ago
Although there was a yes "vote", these apartments are far from approved. But since no more people are showing up at the monthly meetings, no more letters are coming in, the planning commission feels that the objections were just an emotional response, not a real concern. The next meeting is Tuesday, 10/2, at 7, please attend if you can, they've been giving the public speaking time. Please send letters, they are specifically looking for evidence/studies that support a decline in property values.
Update #25 years ago
The planning commission did not make a decision about the apartments at the July meeting, they requested more time to review. The next meeting is on 8/14 at 7PM at the Blendon Township Hall. They acknowledged the large amount of letters received against the apartments at the last meeting, so please continue to send letters to the planning commission. Also, share this petition online and with your spouses & neighbors, the commission is aware of it. Please also attend the next meeting on 8/14.
Update #15 years ago
Thank you for supporting our petition. The best thing you could do to show and voice your support against this is attend the planning commission meeting on 7/10 @ 7PM at the Blendon Township Hall, 7161 72nd Avenue. Thanks.
