Please Stop Using Betta Cups At Petsmart

Petsmart keeps Betta fish in tiny 8 ounce cups. No fish should be kept this way, not any fish!

This petition shows how your customers feel about keeping Betta fish in plastic 8 ounce cups. We understand that Male Bettas must be kept seperate so they do not fight and injure each other, but living in those little cups is not humane. We come to your store and see those little lives crammed in those tiny plastic jail cels, the fish just lay there, some can not turn around, they cannot swim forward, spread their finage properly and are stressed be the constant sightings of other Male Bettas not to mention the very frequent wanter changes. The fish can become sick because of this torturous boring existence. If you pick one cup up the Betta inside wakes up franticly and paces back and forth going no where like an abused caged Tiger in a circus. Employees of your store tell us that the fish are use to living this way and Bettas can live in small bodies of water. First of all, would you want to live in a closet? And secondly, Betta's natural habitat are the large rice paddies of Thailand not small muddy puddles. Betta may be able to withstand these living conditons because they can breath air through the water's surface but they still are TROPICAL FISH. They need warm clean water, & swiming room. We urges you to change your care for these misunderstood fish by letting them be fish. Take away those tiny platic cups and give them bigger living arrangements like large glass jars, These containers are great temporally housing for your Male Bettas, the jars will reduce cleaning for your employees because the jars are much bigger it will reduce the stress of the fish because there will be less water changes and most importantly the Bettas can finally do what fish do.. swim. Please do the humane thing & abort the Betta Cups in your stores. Again, would you want to live in a closet?
