Save Texas Pets From Needless Euthanasia

Animal sheltering in the U.S. faces a big challenge. Texas, for example, is one of the worst states for shelter pets, with over 100,000 animals killed in shelters last year because of a lack of resources and space to keep pets safe while they search for their new home. The solution? Nationwide collaboration through Austin Pets Alive!'s outreach efforts and lifesaving programs like transport.

Since Austin became a No Kill city in 2011, Austin Pets Alive! has increased the city's save rate to 97% – now we're teaming up with the rest of the country to stop the unnecessary euthanasia of shelter pets. Right now, many shelters in southern states like Texas have too many pets and not enough adopters, while other shelters across the country have space for more adoptable pets.

Through programs like transport, we provide relief to under-resourced, overburdened Texas shelters by connecting healthy, adoptable pets with shelters in other states that have the space and resources to help them find homes. Just last month, 100 pets made their way from all over Texas to Maine!

Through nationwide collaboration, we can create a safer, happier future for thousands of vulnerable pets across the country who need help to avoid euthanasia and find loving homes.

Join us now to grow innovative, lifesaving programs at Austin Pets Alive! and save more shelter pets in need every day!
