District Attorney Robert Zapf, we are petitioning that you seek the maximum allowed penalty for Wisconsin Statute 951.02- Mistreatment of Animals/Causeing Death, in regards to Julie A. Sokolski.  Sokolski consciously caused the excruciating death of a stray cat by trapping it in a drain pipe and allowing it to starve.

Julie A. Sokolski, from Bristol, WI, is being brought up on charges for animal cruelty causing death. She was tired of a stray cat that hung around the neighborhood and did not want it to "infect" the purebred cats she breeds. So she caught it in a cat carrier and then placed the carrier in a drain pipe, covering the hole with a flower pot. A sheriff's deputy noticed the scene and found the black and white cat dead in the drain pipe. This cat STARVED to death.  It would have had water in a drain pipe, so it couldn't have dehydrated, which would have been bad enough.  It was starved; it was TORTURED.   If she had the cat caught, she could have easily just taken it to the Safe Harbor Humane Society, which is anti-kill. This woman works with animals. She is employed at Buggy Whip Farm's Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, and she also breeds cats.  She obviously just sees them as dollar signs and not living, breathing, FEELING creatures. She also is quoted to say she knew she was "being cruel to the cat," but didn't know what to do, so she waited for the cat to die.

District Attorney Zapf, Sokolski is facing 18 months in prison. We believe that you should seek that she be sentenced to the entire 18 months.  For a woman who makes her living working with animals to torture and cause the death of an animal simply because it did not have papers is absolutely inexcusable.  We need you to send out a clear message to the public: animals are not expendible life forms and this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.
