John Boehner: Tell Taxpayers How Much They've Spent on DOMA

  • recipient: John Boehner
Despite the recent federal appeals court deeming the dehumanizing "Defense of Marriage Act" unconstitutional, John Boehner refuses to acknowledge the equal rights of gay and lesbian citizens.

Worse, he wants taxpayers to foot the bill on outside legal counsel in the fight against gay and lesbian families' rights, and repeatedly refuses to give a definite figure for how much this will cost.

Even in states that recognize same-sex marriage, the Defense of Marriage Act denies married gay and lesbian couples equal federal benefits, such as long-term health insurance and filing joint tax returns. The spouses of gay and lesbian veterans also face having their benefits taken away by this discriminatory act. Boehner has no business taking taxpayer money to treat certain Americans as second class citizens.

Tell John Boehner to reveal how much taxpayer money he plans to put toward supporting DOMA.
Dear John Boehner,

Despite various inquiries into how much money you and the Republican members of the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group have taken to receive outside legal help to support the "Defense of Marriage Act," American taxpayers have yet to hear how much they have funded these discriminatory and unconstitutional measures.

We demand to know how much you have and will throw away in order to treat same-sex married couples as second class citizens.
