Trent Lott Should Resign Now!

We, the undersigned, ask that you tender your resignation from the US Senate, as it is the right thing clearly the only honorable thing to do. Now that you have exposed yourself as a racist, even in your half-apologetic statements after the fact, there is no course but that of resignation. Even in doing so, you will not be given back any measure of esteem from the legions of minorities, political organizations, and forward-thinking citizens you have offended. But it will spare us from the further National embarrassment of having you as a leader of our country.
For decades, this country has thrived on diversity – from your statement, it appears you would have it different, given your way. Your disgraceful comments are inexcusable. The fact that the President hasn't asked you to consider stepping down is reprehensible. For these reasons, we ask that you do what American Honor demands--Resign!
And to the President:
Your inability to separate political affiliation with the right thing to do will become heatedly apparent if you do not require this of Sen. Lott. His actions are a disgrace to the Republican Party, the Party that upheld President Abraham Lincoln's dream of a discrimination-free America. Please ask Sen. Lott for his resignation immediately.
