Today, 01th of February 2006, the local authorities (Bucharest Mayor and Chief of Animal Survey Administration) took the decision to start the campaign of the stray dogs control. This fact is due to the tragical event, that happened on 29th of January 2006 in Bucharest, near the Government Residence. A Japanese business man died because of a wound made by a stray dog bite. Now are proofs and witnesses to demonstrate that this tragical accident involved a stray dog, according to the videorecordings. The stray dog population is something abnormal in city's life. The situation has become critical. Every day 80-150 people are registered at the Colentina Hospital with stray dog bites. Our proposal is to keep the stray dogs in the shelters for 2 weeks, and meanwhile they should be tested and the ones that do not pass the test for adoption should be put to sleep. The small remaining number of dogs that are eligible for adoption should be kept in shelters for some time and try to get people to adopt them. Our proposal: Please help us to: - convince the local authorities to manage this problem in a human way, respecting international standards, laws and conventions that Romania signed to become part of European Union in 2007, - stop the slaughter of the humans, - make the authorities understand the importance of respecting human rights, according to international regulations, We do believe that Romania cannot be integrated in European Union if we cannot deal with this problem in a fair way and we are rushing to start a real massacre instead of finding a decent solution.
