Tell CDC Director Tom Frieden to Prioritize Gun Violence Research

This year, gun violence will displace car accidents as the leading cause of death among young people. Ignoring this crisis won't make it go away — and it's time for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to treat the epidemic of gun violence in America like the public health crisis it is.

But almost 20 years of NRA intimidation has discouraged the CDC from pursuing research on the causes and solutions to gun violence. It's also resulted in the cutting of nearly 96% of the CDC’s firearm injury prevention research.

President Obama has already promised $10 million in gun violence prevention research, but the CDC has yet to act. We can't afford to keep ignoring this crisis. Sign the petition telling the CDC not to cave to pressure from the gun lobby, and to resume research on the causes and solutions to gun violence in America.
To: CDC Director Tom Frieden, MD:

For years, the CDC has caved to NRA intimidation tactics and chosen not to conduct life-saving research on the causes of gun violence -- even as gun violence continues to harm the health and safety of Americans. It's long past time to resume research on this public health crisis.

Don't give in to pressure from the gun lobby. Please take action to reinstate gun violence research at the CDC. It will be critical to creating public policies that make us all safer.
