Sign to oppose dumping toxic rat poison on the fragile Farallon Islands and take the Poison Free Pledge!

The United States Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has not backed off from its preferred plan to eliminate non-native house mice from the South Farallon Island that reportedly endanger local wildlife. The USFWS plan is to air-drop a total of 2,917 pounds (that's 1.3 metric tons) of toxic rat poison (rodenticide) pellets on the South Farallon Island.

WildCare strongly opposes this plan. Poison should never be the preferred option to control a pest problem. After rodents eat poison bait, they become sluggish and are easy prey. The negative effects of the poison move up the food chain, and our Wildlife Hospital regularly sees the disastrous effects of such poisons on animals like hawks, owls, foxes and raccoons that rely on rodents for food. Wildlife that consume poisoned rodents get sick or even die.

You can help by adding your voice. Speak out against the proposed USFWS plan to drop poison on the Farallon Islands, and takeWildCare's Poison Free Pledge to show your commitment to live poison free to help keep wild animals safe.

Sign the Poison Free Pledge and send a message to USFWS that dropping over a metric ton of rat poison on the fragile marine environment of the Farallon Islands is unacceptable.

The Poison Free Pledge:

I oppose the proposed plan to drop rat poison on the Farallon Islands, and I am signing WildCare's Poison Free Pledge to reinforce the message that poison should never be the preferred method for controlling a rodent problem.

I pledge to only use nontoxic forms of rodent control, and to do my best to remove all attractants such as outdoor food, water, and other things that may be causing rodents to proliferate in a way that humans become irritated by their presence.
