Make the Blockchain Finance and Cryptocurrency Markets (N1621) module available to Computer Science students.

Blockchain is a hot topic these days and has created an industry which has seen exponential growth over the past few years. Having good knowledge of the technology and the impacts it will have on financial markets is a very employable and in demand skill to have. There are only a handful of universities in the world to offer courses on blockchain and it is great to see that the University of Sussex is one of the first to do so.

Unfortunately though, this course is not offered to Computer Science students and is only available to those who study Business and Finance, which would not be such a bad thing if the module were mainly focused on the economic aspect of the industry. However, after reading the outline of the module it is quite clear that the course covers many of the technical underpinnings of blockchain which are much more suitable towards Computer Science students, such as: binary and hexadecimal numbers, hashes, elliptic curves, public and private keys, digital signatures, cryptography, Merkel trees, consensus algorithms (PoW & PoS), smart contracts, and the fundamental differences between first generation blockchains like Bitcoin, and second generation blockchains such as Ethereum.

Whether you are a first, second or even third year Computer Science student planning to do a Masters degree with the university and would like this course made available to you in the future, please sign this petition so we can present the results to those who are in charge of the Informatics and Engineering department.

Please only sign this petition if you actually intend on enrolling on this module and make sure to do so with your student email address and full name with the "don't display my name" section left unticked, otherwise your signature will not count.

Thank you for your support!
