I received an email about a job with Agenda (Agenda Resource Management, Agenda Life Sciences) wanting to hire an animal technician. According to Animal Aid, each year, around four million animals are used in experiments in the UK. Every eight seconds, an animal dies. Toxicity tests involve animals being force-fed substances by having them put in their stomachs via a tube or having them rubbed onto shaven skin. Rats and mice are poisoned with an industrial chemical for around six months to induce cancer. Genetically modified mice are bred to suffer anxiety, paralysis and motor dysfunction and then suspended by their tails to assess abnormal behaviour.
Animals have been reported to chew off their own feet and toes. Animals being starved, deprived of water and decapitated have also been recorded, along with a ventilation system failure leading to the deaths of around 1,000 animals have also been reported. Animals used in experiments and "research" are also sometimes deprived of anaesthesia.
Some people, including those with medical knowledge, would agree that animal experiments are misleading and dangerous, due to the differences between nonhuman animals and humans. Alternatives to the use of animals in experiments and "research" would include fake skin and organs, donated bodies, in-vitro tests, computer simulation and human volunteers.
Even if the animals are cared for and treated well and only used when "necessary", this still doesn't excuse any unnecessary abuse and killing happening at Agenda. Please stop all use of animals in experiments and "research" and send all the animals to good sanctuaries and rescues or keep them without using them and look after them and treat them as well as possible, and donate to the sanctuaries and rescues. Please also do better, more reliable research and experiments.
