Set California’s Truck Speed Limit to 65 Mph

The Goal. To set truck speeds in California to 65 mph.

The Problem. In California, the speed limit for trucks is 55 mph. This can be problematic for truck drivers, especially those driving commercial trucks. The difference in speeds between trucks at 55 mph and passenger vehicles at 60 to 75 mph negatively affects truck drivers who become more stressed because of extended driving hours and less deliveries accomplished.

The Solution. Other states in America already follow the 65-mph speed limit for trucks. California is a major state and it only makes perfect sense for the truck speed limit to be set at 65 mph, considering the number of deliveries and commercial transactions happening within and outside the state. The lives of truck drivers also face less risk if the speed is increased to 65 mph as driving time will decrease and faster deliveries will be accomplished. Regardless of whether the road has two or four lanes, big trucks should be allowed to travel at a speed of 65 mph. This allows drivers to better adjust to the pace of smaller cars.

Setting the speed limit to 65 mph creates more opportunities for businesses to flourish, especially in rural areas which are normally not reached by new products and services. This way, commerce will improve and the state will also reap greater income from taxes. Trucking businesses with online truck insurance won't have to worry about quickly adapting to the much-needed change in speed limit.
