Tell Congress: Protect Forests & Our Planet's Health

Without the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), many of our country's great, green expanses of forest would be at risk of being paved over or plowed down.

From Acadia's renowned peaks, to the forests of Greater Yellowstone, to the Sierra Nevada mountains, LWCF has protected vast areas of our country's most important forest lands.

Forests are not only important parts of our country's natural landscapes, they remain a critical tool in combatting climate change. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by LWCF's Forest Legacy Program's lands alone is equal to capturing emissions from 6.5 million tanker trucks' worth of gasoline.

But despite its 52-year track record of success, Congress let LWCF run out on October 1. That's why we must push to renew it now!

With your support, we can continue to protect America's forests and vital lands that give us so much. Call on Congress to renew and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund as soon as possible.

Subject: Don't Let the Land and Water Conservation Fund Expire

Dear [Representative/Senator],

With threats to nature and vital lands rapidly increasing, it is especially critical to renew and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) before it expires in September. We cannot afford to put essential conservation programs in jeopardy.

LWCF is one of America's most important and successful conservation programs, benefiting every state in the nation. LWCF has a 50-year track record of helping provide clean water, conserve public lands and natural resources, increase recreation opportunities and support communities.

Critical conservation work will be hampered if LWCF expires. Plus, renewing it won't cost taxpayers a penny because it's paid for with drilling revenues from oil and gas companies. I ask you to reauthorize and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund as soon as possible.
