New York is Poised to Protect Animals in a Monumental Way, From Puppies to Elephants! Demand the State's Legislators Vote to Curb Animal Cruelty!

A long-overdue package of anti-cruelty bills meant to protect innocent animals has made it to the New York Senate. The set of seven bills, introduced by several different lawmakers, would take tremendous steps towards reducing animal suffering, neglect, and harm – in places like cruel puppy mills, cosmetic testing labs, and more. But without maintained public pressure, these vital pieces of legislation could slip through the cracks – and voiceless dogs, cats, bunnies, and more could lose their chance at a better life.

Sign now to demand that New York Legislators pass this package of desperately needed animal cruelty bills!

Part of what makes the package so impressive is that it targets a wide array of animal rights issues, including protections for domestic animals and pets as well as international wildlife! If passed, the bills would protect the often overlooked rodents and rabbits by banning cosmetic testing on animals in the state. There is absolutely no reason animals should be burned, poisoned, and prodded just so we can have a new shade of lipstick or shampoo to make our hair shinier.

Puppy mills would also be banned, paving the way for increased adoption rates and protecting poor dogs from the horrific conditions of mills, where mother dogs are impregnated over and over again and their puppies often receive little to no veterinary care, proper nutrition, or care. Dog breed insurance discrimination would no longer be allowed in the state, making the thousands of pitbulls and rottweilers that sit in shelters around the country more likely to be given a loving home and a healthy life.

Another bill would require quicker inspections on abandoned properties for animals left behind, where not just dogs but cats, reptiles and domestic animals can suffer without food or water. On top of that, the package includes a ban on trophy hunting imports of "Big Five" endangered species. "Lions, leopards, elephants, black and white rhinos, and giraffes" all face extinction, in part due to illegal poaching and trafficking. Together, this set of bills would quite literally save the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of animals around the world and prevent untold unnecessary suffering.

Despite being a generally progressive state, New York ranks in the bottom half of states in the country for animal protection. Let's urge them to move up on that list! Sign the petition now to tell New York legislators to pass this package of bills which will save precious animals' lives!
