Canada: End the Seal Hunt Now!

  • by: Care2.com

Each year, seal hunters in Canada participate in the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world. Hundreds of thousands of seals could be slaughtered this season -- most before they're 12 weeks old.

Hunters descend on once peaceful seal herds, shooting the seals at close range and beating pups with clubs. The seals' bodies are then sold for their meat and fur.

This year, hunt quotas increased even though demand for seal products has decreased. The Canadian government must stop trying to make the seal hunt seem necessary and make the right decision for Canada's economy and for the seals: end this cruelty.

Send a message to Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper urging him to stop the annual seal slaughter immediately and abolish future slaughters.
Dear Prime Minister Harper,

Canada's annual seal slaughter is the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world. Hundreds of thousands of seals are shot at close range or clubbed to death -- many before they're 12 weeks old.

This year, the hunt quota for grey seals on Hay Island increased to 60,000 even though demand for seal products has decreased.

I urge you to immediately put a stop to the Canadian seal slaughter and discontinue seal slaughters in the future.
