Suzhou is a famous tourist city in China with its ancient and meticulously designed gardens. But the city was in a craze of killing innocent dogs by the local government since late May this year. The government never tried to identify and ban fierce breeds, and when few fierce dogs mauled a child recently, the government killed other pets and strays. According to the Suzhou residents’ posts in the social media, government employees were rewarded CNY50 for killing one dog. Officials stormed into animal hospitals and pet stores to kill whatever available. Some dogs were just put into a garbage bag and suffocated to dead. Many were beaten to dead on the streets in front of children and their owners. Homes were searched and pet dogs were taken away and killed. The Suzhou government claims they have animal shelters to house strays and illegal dogs, but in fact those animals could hardly be fed and taken care of and eventually die (Some were so hungry they fed on the carcasses of others), according to some insiders.
What is more, Suzhou was not the only and first city for doing this; it is a typical pratice of the Chinese governments nationwide.
Yet of course, the Suzhou's police denied all accusations in a phone interview by an anonymous caller.
We need to act and show the Chinese that killing innocent dogs is not acceptable in the world society; they must correct their regulations and policies if they want to look good and be active on the world stage.
(Please forward this petition to people you know as many as possible. We are fed up by the dog-eating Chinese!)
