Ban all poisonous chicken jerky treats imported from China

All chicken jerky treats that are made in China and/or the ingredients are coming from China are poisoning our dogs causing illness & death in many healthy dogs after they have consumed these treats even while staying within the guidelines. The FDA knows there is a link but it is undetermined as to what that link may be. At the slightest doubt these products should have been recalled or at the very least a warning label put on all packaging/store shelves. We are seeking the removal of these products from all store shelves or warning labels put on all packaging. No animal should ever have to die due to treats.

UPDATE: As of 1/3/12 the FDA has reported that the number of reports flooding in of sick and dying dogs has now reached into the hundreds, this is in addition to the 70 that was in its original warning on 11/18/11.

Below is the FDA Warning that was re-issued on 11/18/11, this issue dates back to 2007 and the public has not been kept informed on a continuous basis.

"The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is again cautioning consumers that chicken jerky products for dogs (also sold as chicken tenders, strips or treats) may be associated with illness in dogs. In the last 12 months, FDA has seen an increase in the number of complaints it received of dog illnesses associated with consumption of chicken jerky products imported from China. These complaints have been reported to FDA by dog owners and veterinarians.

FDA issued a cautionary warning regarding chicken jerky products to consumers in September 2007 and a Preliminary Animal Health Notification in December of 2008. After seeing the number of complaints received drop off during the latter part of 2009 and most of 2010, the FDA is once again seeing the number of complaints rise to the levels of concern that prompted release of our earlier warnings.

Ban all poisonous chicken jerky treats imported from China

To: The FDA, Nestle-Purina, Del Monte, Dogswell

We, the undersigned, are urging the FDA and all manufacturers of chicken jerky treats imported from China to immediately halt all sales until said treats can be safely sourced and proven to no longer be dangerous to our companions.

To date, dangerous chicken jerky is still being sold all across the United States and other countries to pet parents who are unaware of the cautionary warning that has been in effect since 2007. The third warning was issued on November 18, 2011 and there have been well over 600 complaints reported to the FDA. How many more unsuspecting pet parents will choose to give their companions this poison because they are unaware or misled by the deceptive packaging? When will that “1” treat be the cause of grief and heartache for that unsuspecting pet parent? When will the FDA and all manufacturers put the safety of our companions before profits?

If these treats are safe, it would not matter the amount our companions are given, as weakly suggested by the manufacturers to be the cause of so many deaths and illnesses. Death and serious illness would never be the end result for so many if safety were truly your priority and if thorough and proper testing of our companions symptoms had occurred five years ago. Many companions will continue to live with the repercussions of being poisoned for the remainder of their lives due to corporate greed. How many lives could have been saved if, five years ago, when there was first doubt that the safety of our companions was compromised, the FDA and all manufacturers of imported chicken jerky had issued a precautionary recall until the toxin was found?  How much pain and suffering could have been avoided? How many hundreds of thousands of dollars saved if only you had all met your moral obligation?

It is time for you to step up and protect our voiceless companions and immediately halt all sales of poisonous chicken jerky imported from China.

We are their only voice and we say: No animal should EVER have to die or become ill due to a treat!

Sincerely,

We, The Undersigned
