Concentrating Solar Power-WE WANT CLEAN ENERGY!

The U.S. Department of Energy researches and develops a large-scale solar thermal technology known as Concentrating Solar Power. DOE's Solar Energy Technologies Program works to provide clean, reliable, affordable solar thermal electricity for the nation. We the undersigned are asking for Congress to make this a top priority and support the necessary funding so that we may end our dependence on fossil fuel consumption.
Concentrating Solar Power is on the brink of commercial viability, and U.S. industry is actively seeking commercial projects. These technologies—such as dish/engine systems, parabolic troughs, and central power towers—are made of reflective materials that focus or concentrate the sun's considerable heat energy. This concentrated solar energy then drives a generator to produce electricity. To ensure the success of these initial plants and thus enable large-scale construction of additional plants, U.S. industry requires continuing access to the research base on which these plants will be designed. Eliminating federal support for CSP at this critical stage could disrupt plans to build critically needed commercial plants. The benefit of U.S. investments to date would be lost, and foreign competitors would provide future U. S. solar power plant capacity.

We believe our tax dollars and research funding, which are currently spent on the production of non-renewable energy for our use, must increasingly be used for the development and supply of
CLEAN, NON-POLLUTING, SAFE and SUSTAINABLE energy production methods and living systems.

We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
