Hundreds of Koalas Were Admitted to a Single Animal Hospital, Having Been Hit by Cars, Attacked by Dogs, and More

In the past breeding season, over 200 koalas had to be rushed to an already-packed local animal hospital in Australia. 129 of them, heartbreakingly, had to be euthanized. The trend paints a scary picture for the future of these solitary creatures, whose decreased habitat brings them face to face with dangerous roadways, vulnerable to domestic animal attacks, and more human-caused dangers. We must act quickly to protect koala habitats and prevent another deadly event like this from happening in the future!

Sign now to demand the government of New South Wales protect and renew koala habitat to save the lives of hundreds of koalas!

Breeding season occurs between July and December, and during this time koalas are on the move, looking for new mates and migrating to new territories. This makes mating season one of the most dangerous times for the animals, forcing them to cross into human-developed areas since their habitat has been steadily shrinking.

Breeding season is already hard enough on the animals -- but for koalas, it's so bad that its has a second name: trauma season. There is no reason humans should make this period more stressful. But human encroachment on koala habitats has continued to prove deadly, and if the New South Wales government doesn't act soon, hundreds more could die.

It's not just car accidents and dogs that threaten beloved koala populations. Climate change has scorched the Australian continent, and the massive wildfires of the past few years have caused many koalas to die from dehydration, burns, or habitat loss. It is clear that this species is at risk, and renewing koala habitat is more important than ever.

Breeding season is crucial for keeping koala populations stable. We must protect koalas as they travel to find mates by keeping koala habitat safe from vehicles and human encroachment. Sign the petition now to tell the New South Wales government: protect and renew koala habitat today! We cannot allow any more premature koala deaths!
