Urgent: Support the bill that could help prevent another Grenfell

I'm an advisor at Shelter, and I've been working closely with the survivors and those affected by the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower. It's been incredibly difficult, but also really striking to see the strength of the community.

The tragedy has provided the starkest reminder of just how easily renters' concerns can be ignored, and their rights neglected. But now we have a real chance to act to give renters a stronger voice.

MPs will soon be debating a new bill – called the Fitness for Human Habitation Bill. If it passes, this Bill will empower renters to take legal action over unfit and unsafe conditions, allowing them to raise issues relating to fire safety.

This is an amazing opportunity to change the law, but we can only do it together. We must speak out to demand that MPs seize this chance. If the bill isn't supported by enough MPs, it simply won't pass – and the chance will be gone.

As well as fire safety, the bill will also cover other dangers like asbestos, electrical hazards & toxic mould. In my work, I have seen far too many private and social rented homes with risks that pose a serious threat to health and safety. We have to change this.

Please join me and demand that the Government supports the Fitness for Human Habitation Bill.
