Join us to make sure Canada keeps our promises to the world!
The federal government previously promised to increase our investments in foreign aid every year until 2030.
While the government made significant global health investments during the pandemic, now those increases are at risk of getting cut. The government is ending much of our domestic COVID response and is considering cuts to foreign aid.
Canada made promises to:
The global community faces increasing pressures from lingering extreme poverty, new surges in preventable diseases, more conflicts, as well as climate change and severe natural disasters.
These converging crises are increasing and the current international development budget cannot handle this pressure. We need a significant investment to keep our promises and address the new challenges.
For every $100 of national income, countries like Germany, Turkey, and Norway invest over 70 cents in international development. We are well below our peers and invest less than 32 cents for every $100. We must work to protect the current international development budget from cuts and get new investments that are closer to Canada's fair share. This is the only way to meaningfully address the converging global crises we must face.
We obviously can't do this alone. We can join other countries already leading this effort.
That's why we want Canada to step up. If we do, we can meet the challenges facing the global community. A promise made should be a promise kept. Canada committed to end extreme poverty and preventable diseases by 2030, as well as address climate change. These are the pledges Canada should live up to.
