Stop plans to drill for oil in this pristine Colorado wilderness!

The U.S. government illegally issued 65 oil and gas leases to drill in the pristine wilderness of White River National Forest. Sign this petition to demand the Bureau of Land Management revoke these illegal permits, before this precious habitat is permanently affected!

The White River National Forest is a 2.3 million-acre forest in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. It supports the largest elk herd in the world, and many other species of wildlife such as the Canada lynx, moose, bighorn sheep, and peregrine falcons. It also provides clean drinking water to thousands of people in Colorado.

This habitat and water supply could be at serious risk if the BLM doesn't revoke permits to drill for gas. The permits cover areas of the forest that don't even have roads, which means that if drilling operations begin, a huge amount of construction would be needed to supply those operations. This would wreak havoc on the ecology of the area, causing deforestation, pollution of waterways, and ultimately the destruction of the homes of thousands of species.

But we have a serious chance of saving this wilderness. The permits for the oil and gas leases were granted without any environmental review, which is against the law. The Bureau of Land Management has already rescinded a handful of the permits, but that's not good enough. If we can show that the spotlight is on this mistake, we can convince the BLM to take back all of the permits and keep this pristine wilderness protected.

Sign the petition now to ask the BLM to rescind all 65 illegally-granted oil and gas leases!
Dear Bureau of Land Management,

We urge you to immediately revoke all 65 oil and gas leases that were illegally granted without environmental review to oil companies wishing to drill in the White River National Forest.

In addition to the need for an environmental review prior to issuing permits, we would like to caution against issuing permits at all in areas that are currently untouched by roads and other human intervention. The number of pristine places in the United States is dwindling, and we strongly urge you to protect the last few wild places we have against industrial interests, which have been shown to destroy those ecosystems, in some cases permanently.

Now is the time to protect our wilderness, not to lease it out to those who would disrupt it to turn a profit.
