Drop Charges Against DeAndre Harris, Man Beaten in Charlottesville

Following the white supremacist rally and counter protest that took place in Charlottesville in August, a video showing a black man being beaten in a parking garage by several white attackers went viral. Outraged viewers worked together to use the footage to identify the attackers, leading to the arrests of many of the men in the vide.

Unfortunately, the man who was beaten in the video, DeAndre Harris, has now also been arrested and charged with unlawful wounding. Please sign this petition demanding that the Charlottesville Police Department drop charges against Harris.

Harris was arrested after a white supremacist named Harold Ray Crews accused Harris of injuring him during an altercation at the rally. According to Harris’ lawyer, Crews was injured in a separate altercation that occurred after Harris was already in the hospital getting care for the injuries he sustained during the beating from the viral video.

So far, evidence does not support Crews’ allegations against Harris. This is just another example of racism at work. Charlottesville Police Department must end this now. Please sign this petition demanding the police drop charges against DeAndre Harris.
Update #16 years ago
Good news! Felony charges against DeAndre Harris have been dropped. He still has misdemeanor charges against him, though they carry no jail time. Please share this petition so we can keep the pressure on and have all charges against DeAndre Harris dropped!
