15 ACRE SEWAGE LAGOON IN TAOS - STOP IT NOW!

There is a  open 15 acre sewage lagoon that doesn't need to exist because the owner could use the Taos County waste water treatment plant.

His state permit is up for renewal and even though our county land use ordinance specifically prohibits open sewage lagoons we believe the permit might be renewed.  The only criteria the state uses to issue the permit is ground water contamination.

We are also concerned about airborne contaminants that have well documented health risks.  There are only a few open sewage pits in all of New Mexico, and very few Nationwide because they are an environmental hazard.
