Ban the importation of shark fins into NSW

We need your signature in order to assist the NSW Premier in making the right decision. The Labor government has authorised the quota 234,000 sharks to be slaughtered over the next 3 years. Can Barry O'Farrell set a national standard by banning dried shark fin imports into NSW.

26,000 sharks are being killed every year resulting in 10 tonnes of  shark fins being imported to Australia with Sydney's Chinatown being the largest consumer. Shark fins are retailing at around $1400 per kilo and a bowl of shark fin soup can cost around $150.

These sharks have their fins cut off and are thrown back into the ocean to die a horrible and slow death. We find such actions are cruel and offensive.

The Labor government has authorised the quota of 234,000 sharks to be killed in the GBR in QLD over the next 3 years. Our oceans are depleted and we have lost over 90% of our shark population already. If we don't stop this now, our reefs will die along with the shark species.

We ask that the NSW Premier sets a national example by putting a positive foot forward towards saving what is left of our depleting oceans.
