Citizens against PADS Shelter Location in Park Ridge IL
We the citizens of Park Ridge, disagree with the City of Park Ridge to allow St Mary's Episcopal Church to open a P.A.D.S. Shelter.
Reasons include:
- Residential and high traffic pedestrian location, close to Up Town...
- Large number of children living and playing in the 10 bock sq. area...
- Children walk to & from two schools in front of St. Marys...
- Early Morning and Evening School Programs, Children walk to...
- No Parking lot for homeless sleeping in their cars...
- There are little to no homeless in Park Ridge...
- Homeless will have to be taken out of their environment and... transported to Pk Ridge...
- Unfair for the Homeless to be shuffled
- Lack of counseling for specific problems
- No Street lights for citizen security
- No lights in alleys which are wide and very active with pedestrians
- St Mays is very small and will not be able to handle overflow
- Businesses will be subject to homeless panhandling and disturbances like homeless sitting on the UP Town benches eating there bag lunches.
- Park Ridge Citizens will avoid shopping uptown and going to the theater
- P.A.D.S. locations are placed in areas where homeless is prevalent and industrial type areas
- <!--[endif]-->50% of the homeless have spent time in jail
- 24% have been in prison
- <!--[endif]-->Homeless account for 10% to 35.4% of all arrests
- <!--[endif]-->Sex Offenders reside (unregistered) and use shelters to avoid Megan%u2019s law
- <!--[endif]-->57%have mental health problems
- <!--[endif]-->Local Police are called on a regular basis to PADS and make arrests
- PADS funding request from the city of Elgin for $50,000.00, plus an additional $30,000.00 annually for additional staff
- Elgin passed a tax increase to meet the funding dollars
- The Park Ridge Ministry has admitted no experience with shelters
- The Park Ridge Ministry and the City of Park Ridge have not ask citizen for input
