Gene Roddenberry, who passed away in 1991, created what many people regard as the #1 cult TV series of all time: Star Trek. This show has gone through many incarnations and inspired hundreds of books and a number of movies. Many fans credit it with getting them interested in science and space exploration. A person who had such a positive impact on our culture deserves this honor.
We the undersigned petition the United States Postal Service to create a stamp honoring Gene Roddenberry, creator of the popular and influential TV series Star Trek. Since Mr. Roddenberry died in 1991, he has been eligible for this honor since 2001.

Star Trek had, and continues to have, a tremendous impact on culture, not just in the United States but around the world. Roddenberry's ideals about peaceful space exploration by a diverse crew ring as true in 2011 as they did in 1966.
