Hypocritical Government Actions

The government has been targeting the tobacco industry for a very long time, because of the health care costs associated with its use. Yet, alcohol seems to get a free ride. I think the health care costs associated with the use of alcohol is thousands times greater than that associated with tobacco use. Can the alcohol companies be made to pay for all the health care costs there product produces? Can they be prohibited from advertising their product? Can their product be taxed so high as to triple of higher,  the real cost?
I wish the government would try to be fair and equal in their efforts to protect our health. They seem to act on things that will get them re-elected and not on what is truly the right thing to do.
