Siguen vivos? Queremos estar seguros de como estan.

--------------

Many versions have been heard in the media about the destiny of the cats of the writer Carlos Monsivais after his regrettable passing away due to pulmonary fibrosis. For those who knew him, either personally or through the media, it would be hard to imagine him without his cats.

It's regrettable that a cousin of him, Mrs. Beatriz Sanchez Monsivais, said she had decided to "put them to sleep", that they had already killed half of them, and that the other half would follow the next day.

Such declarations don't seem unlikely, given the writer's family has been blaming the cats for his death, even after expert pneumologists have said cats have nothing to do with what he suffered from.

At other times, however, his family has stated the opposite: that the felines are well.

Opposite versions, and that none really knows whether the cats are well or not, have provoked uncertainty and unrest in the public opinion.

He always pronounced himself for the humane treatment of animals. He loved his cats, and even founded a society  to help homeless cats. It would be truly absurd that his cats are killed by his own family now that he's no longer with us.

That is why we, the undersigned, ask the family of Mr. Carlos Monsivais two things:

First, we ask them not to kill the cats (if there's any left). They are not to blame for the death of Mr. Monsivais. We understand the grief that overwhelms the family at the moment, but we know that revenge would not be fair to the small felines.

Secondly, we would like to know the status of the cats. What has happened to them, and what will happen to them. Are they still alive? We want to be sure of their situation.
