Parkway Central Club Lacrosse Petition

The lacrosse club requests the opportunity for continued use of the central middle school facilities that have been granted since the inception of the program over 15 years ago.

Given: All other parkway lacrosse clubs use their respective middle or H.S. facilities for practice and game opportunities. Central Middle has the greatest amount of space available compared to the other middle schools. We believe the club has the right to space at Central Middle rather than travel to South Middle for practice. This current arrangement is unacceptable for two main reasons.

1. Transportation challenges promote discriminatory practices (limits equal access)
2. Concerns for transportation safety.

We believe the recent decisions by the district personnel to deny equal access is without merit. This petition is asking for your support to educate the School Board on the facts of this issue.

We are asking the board to overturn a recent decision to deny our sons the opportunity for a safe and equal access to practice facilities.

Help Influence and Educate Our School District

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States. Youth membership (ages 15 and under) in US Lacrosse has more than quadrupled since 1999 from 40,000 to nearly 250,000. No sport has grown faster at the high school level over the last 10 years and there are now an estimated 180,000 high school players. Lacrosse is also the fastest-growing sport over the last five years at the NCAA level. There are more than 500 college club programs.

Locally, Parkway Central Boys Lacrosse Club as grown significantly in both participation and popularity. Over the last decade approximately 75% of lacrosse student athletics continue at the college level. Currently at least four members are being recruited for Division I programs. More than Football, Basketball, and Track/Field combined. The Club has 45 students, 5 coaches, and over 60 active parent volunteers. In 2007, the club advanced to the state quarter finals. Bringing national and regional recognition to our district.

We would like you to sign this petition to alert the school board to our concern about equal opportunity and access to Parkway Central Middle School facilities for our club.
