Repeal the U.S.A. Patriot Act

On October 26, 2001, in a knee-jerk response to the events of September 11, the U.S.A. Patriot Act was signed into law. This regrettable piece of legislation gives the government the power to search telephone, e-mail, medical and financial records without a court order and without any meaningful oversight.

This law is an affront to our civil rights and is fundamentally un-American. Moreover, surrendering our civil liberties does not make America safer. We are asking the Congress to repeal the U.S.A. Patriot Act effective immediately.
We the undersigned are requesting repeal of the U.S.A. Patriot Act signed into law on October 26, 2001. This law goes too far, allowing the government unprecedented powers to search the telephone, e-mail, medical and financial records of law-abiding American citizens under the guise of protecting America from terrorism.

This law is un-American and it weakens us as a nation. Moreover, it is a violation of our basic civil liberties. We urge you to repeal this law as soon as possible.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this letter.
