Save the Scarlet Hawaiian Honeycreeper!
Global warming and mosquitoes have combined forces to drive the gorgeous scarlet Hawaiian honeycreeper to the uppermost reaches of Hawaii's mountains where its population is rapidly declining, according to the Center for Biological Diversity. The distinctive red bird is especially susceptible to mosquito-born disease.
But there is some good news on the horizon. The US Fish and Wildlife Service recently agreed to review the honeycreeper's status with an eye to listing it as endangered or threatened. Listing is the best hope for this lovely and innocent creature against whom development and agriculture have also conspired.
Please tell US Fish and Wildlife that you support putting the Scarlet Hawaiian honeycreeper on the endangered species list.
We the undersigned thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for reviewing the plight of the scarlet Hawaiian honeycreeper. This rare bird has had more than its fair share of adversities: global warming, mosquito-born disease, and loss of habitat due to development.
