Save the Spread Eagle Chain! No boating restrictions!

The undersigned Spread Eagle residents formally request that SECOLA formally oppose the pending Wisconsin legislation that will restrict boat speed to zero wake within 100 feet of any shoreline.  While the legislation has the honorable intent of  improving safety on WIsconsin public lakes and rivers, it does not address unique geographic configuration of the Spread Eagle chain   This law will have unintended consequences for the Spread Eagle chain that will adversely affect the residents ability to enjoy the lake for recreational purposes.

It will be impossible to waterski on the Spread Eagle chain if this rule is strictly enforced.  Each of the lakes is simply too small for waterskiing to be confined to individual lakes and will only increase the wake wash if boats are forced to tow skiers around one lake.  Residents of the chain have been waterskiing safely on the Spread Eagle chain for decades.  The residents understand the navigation issues of the Spread Eagle chain and exercise extreme caution navigating our waterways.

The undersigned therefore urge the SECOLA board to formally protest this legislation and pursue conversations with the appropriate authorities to allow local variances to preserve our ability to enjoy recreation on the Spread Eagle chain.
