Skate Park for South Huntsville

To Whom it may concern,

I love kids and feel very strongly that we need a FREE, concrete, public skatepark in  South Huntsville, Alabama. The skatepark needs to be designed and built by an experienced skatepark designer/builder, and designed with skaters of all skill levels in mind. When going through the design process, there must be at least one public meeting for skaters to attend and give their input on what they would like to see in the skatepark. The skatepark must be free, so that all skaters can use it...For over 1 year,We have been advocating for a skatepark. People ask me why I am so passionate about getting a skatepark built in South Huntsville. The reason is quite simple, I HAD A WAKE UP CALL! My Children started skating on the South end of town and I quickly realized that there was no place they or any of there friends could skate safely or without getting chased off by the police or business owners. I started talking to other parents and heard stories about skaters getting fined, arrested, and physically hurt for skating on roads not meant for skateboarding. The more I spoke to parents and skateboarders, the more I realized that the south end needed a skatepark. More recently, We all had a neighbor in Athens die of a head injury, because he was skateboarding on roads that were not meant for skateboarding and had unsafe terrain. Over the last year , We have made it a point to learn everything we could about skateparks and what it would take to have a skatepark built in South Huntsville. We needed help. We can not do this alone. Grassroots takes a lot of support ..and yes, in this case it's going to take the community coming together, to make sure the skatepark is built as soon as possible, but, it's going to take funding from corporate donations, sponsors, private donations, fundraisers, people helping spread the word, possibly funding from the City, County and State..and more! Shortly a board of volunteers will be formed to address fundraising for the skatepark.[contact us if interested] The goal is to break ground on the skatepark asap. Depending on funding, the skatepark may be built in several phases. Please show your support for the skatepark by joining my myspace page, and encouraging your myspace friends to join as well. The purpose of my myspace is to bring all skaters together and show just how supportive and huge the skating community is! Skaters from Alabama, Madison County, the City of Huntsville, and residents/supporters that live in these areas, are highly encouraged to join. Donations and Sponsors are needed. I'll be posting information and keeping all my myspace friends updated on the progress of the skatepark. The more support we show for the skatepark, the better! Skatepark meetings will be held soon. These meetings are open to the public and I will post the location, times and dates on the myspace page, so, all those interested in the skatepark, can attend.
