Support H.R.104 - establish a commission to investigate policies of the Bush Administration

  • by: Ray Ables
  • recipient: Members of Congress and the Obama Administration

I am writing to bring H.R.104, a bill recently introduced in the US House of Representatives by John Conyers (D - MI), to your attention. This bill would establish a commission to investigate policies of the Bush Administration carried out under the premise of unreviewable war powers, for a period of 18 months and 60 days. Investigations and hearings would be held regarding detentions performed by the Armed Forces and intelligence community, the use of enhanced interrogation techniques, the concealment of individuals' capture or detention, extraordinary rendition, and domestic electronic surveillance performed without a warrant. This bill would require the Commission to report its findings to the President and to Congress within one year. It includes a Republican among its list of 47 co-sponsors -- Representative Walter Jones [R, NC-3].

I urge everyone to support this bill, as it is important to show the world that we are a country that honors the rule of law. We should show the international community and future generations of Americans that we will not allow those who break the law to go unpunished, even if crimes were committed at the highest levels of office. We deserve to know the truth, and we demand to know the truth. We need to demonstrate that we do not agree that we should compromise our values for our security. Thank you for your consideration.
