Support for strong Lokpal Bill

This petition is filed  in response to the publication of advertisement from the Standing Committee of the Indian Parliament demanding public memoranda on the introduction of Lokpal Bill.  The ruling Congress government is proposing a verison of Lokpall bill that is mere eyewash and cannot effectively curb corruption. We demand introduction of a strong Lokpal Bill which delivers real outcomes in Indias fight against corruption.

Subject: in response to your publication of advertisement demanding public memoranda to the Standing Committee on the introduction of Lokpal Bill

Respected Members of the Standing Committee,

Please consider this as the voice of all the Indians and Non Resident Indians living all around the world.

I believe that there is a need of urgency to introduce a strong Lokpal Bill which delivers real outcomes in Indias fight against corruption. India cannot afford to delay the implementation of a strong Anti-Corruption Institution anymore. I feel that the current scenario in the country has created a trust-deficit between the Parliamentarian and Indias youth and other citizens; and this gap is unfortunately widening. The government is proposing a bill that is mere eyewash and cannot effectively curb corruption.

I advocate a strong Lokpal Bill with following clauses:
1) Inclusion of the entire bureaucracy, citizens charter and public grievances in the scope of Lokpal,
2) Inclusion of Prime Minister under Lokapls purview.
3) Inclusion of the conduct of MPs in the Indian parliament
4) Moving the CBI and CVC under the Lokpal
5) Whistle-blower protection
6) A non political selection panel and Lokal should be accountable to public. In governments Lokpal bill selection and removal rights are totally with government. In that case Lokpal will just be puppet in governments hands.
7) Inclusion of Judiciary either in Lokpal bill or through a civil society drafted judicial
accountability bill.
8) Appointment of Lokayukta in every state in the same line as Lokal in Center.
9) Method of enquiry should be as provided in CrPC in all criminal cases. The favor towards accused and disfavor provided to complainant in Lokpal bill is totally unacceptable.

I desire your word on delivering on three factors:
a) Urgency – in passage and implementation of the Bill
b) Consensus – striving to find a common denominator amongst conflicting views
c) Commitment – a dedication towards a strong anti-corruption agency that will achieve real outcomes and include best-practices from across the globe in this endeavor.

We hope you will take a serious note of our wishes and introduce a strong Lokpal bill to enable making India corruption free.

Yours sincerely,
Indians and Non Resident Indians.
