Tell Ohio Major to Ban Elephant Bullhooks at Upcoming Circus!

The circus is coming to town. And underneath the big top at the Ringling Brothers' circus stop in Ohio next month will undoubtedly be elephants. What comes hand-in-hand with circus elephants? Not peanuts, but bullhooks.

Traditional circuses such as that of the Ringling Brothers represent many  torturous traditions for such intelligent wild animals as elephants. The forefront of this cruel treatment is bullhooks, which are basically big metal rods with hooks at the end used to prod, punish and control the elephant in whichever way the trainer deems fit.

While the skin of an elephant may seem very tough, they can actually feel the pinch of an insect bite and it is actually very sensitive. Trainers often use this hook in very tender spots on their bodies, such as behind their ears, inside the ear or mouth or around the anus.

Please urgently ask Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory to ban the use of bullhooks at the upcoming circus in the state.
We the undersigned are writing to urgently request that you ban the usage of elephant bullhooks at the upcoming Ringling Bros.' circus stop in Ohio. After the Ringling Bros.' recent violations of the Animal Welfare Act which resulted in fines close to 300k, it is an opportune time to stand up to their cruel treatment of one of our most beloved and endangered creatures, the elephant.

Please prevent cruelty to these Ringling elephants in your state and immediately ban the use of bullhooks at the upcoming circus. The elephants will thank you as will your animal-loving constituents.
