Changing Animal Property Laws

Our fur baby was taken from us when she escaped out of the backyard one evening. We imediately put up signs and went on a search for her. A lady saw our fliers and said she had called animal control to have them picked up. Animal control picked her up and adopted her out just five days later. If the pet is unidentifiable in 3 days it can then be euthanized or adopted out. In our case she was adopted the day before we had gotten the call that she was there. After one day the new owners refused to give her back. We do not want this to happen to anyone, for it was so devasting for us.

We asking that the Texas property Laws be changed, I.e if you can prove you have been activley looking for your pet (within a reasonable amount of time) then you are to be reunited if pet is in shelter or new home. There are 18 other states that already have this. For example if a family adopts a animal, the "new" family has to realize that If the family comes looking and finds the pet, there is a two week to month time period in which the original owners can rightfully have their pet back. Pets are considered part of the family and sometimes even like furry children.
