Petition for Mandatory Spay/Neuter of Cats in Orange County
It's All About the Cats, Inc. has adopted an official position in support of mandatory spay/neuter for all cats, with the exception of those permitted by licensed breeders and cats with medical limitations as determined by a licensed veterinarian.
We the undersigned, want this petition to help the stray population and keep cats/kittens out of shelters so they are not euthenized. Also to keep them off the streets. In 7 years, one unspayed female can reproduce up to 420,000 kittens. Most meet an untimely death because most cannot survive the harsh conditions on the street. If they end up in a country shelter, they face a 90% chance of being euthaized. Nearly 10,000 cats are euthanized each year in central florida, not only is this unspeakable in moral terms and places more of a burden on you as a tax payer. Cats breed at as early as 5 months and go into heat every 2 weeks until they become pregnant. Gestation is 63 days and kittens are weaned in 6 weeks, allowing the mother cat to have up to 3 litters of kittens per year.
Thank you for reading.
