Tell New York City's Mayoral Candidate: Income Inequality IS a Problem!

The Republican mayoral candidate for New York City, Joe Lhota, said that while economic or income inequality does exist in New York City, it is not a problem. Isn't this downright dangerous to say in a city with a serious income inequality problem that is only getting worse?

Individuals in New York City can take a trip on subway line 2 and in ten stops jump from Chambers Street in lower Manhattan with an average annual income of $205,192 to 149th street in the Bronx with an average annual income of $16,580.

Although the economy is getting better, poverty is getting worse in NYC, and the gap between the rich and the poor (especially in Manhattan) is one of the worst in the nation.

Please tell Joe Lhota that income inequality is a problem and as a mayoral candidate this is something he should be focused on!

Dear Joe Lhota,

New York City has one of the worst gaps between the rich and the poor in the country, especially in Manhattan. Although the economy is getting better in the United States, the poverty level in NYC is actually getting worse. One can take a trip on subway line 2 and jump from an average annual income of $205,192 to $16,580 in just ten stops.

Despite all of this, you said that although income inequality exists, it is not a problem. As the Republican mayoral candidate for New York City it is dangerous to say that this is not an issue. Please focus on this instead of ignoring the problem.
