Put International Pressure on Vietnam to Free Political Blogger!

Vietnamese officials imprisoned a popular blogger for peaceful written speech criticizing their government. Nguyen Dinh Ngoc now sits among dozens of others who have been jailed for similar "crimes."

On October 5, 2016, a Ho Chi Minh City court reduced Ngoc's terms from five years to three. In a country where so-called "propaganda against the communist state" is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, this is a light sentence. But any punishment of peaceful speech is cruel and creates a culture of fear. According to Reporters Without Borders' latest press freedom index, Vietnam's press freedom ranking is one of the 10 lowest in the world.

I am shocked that Vietnamese officials imprisoned a popular blogger for peaceful written speech criticizing their government. Nguyen Dinh Ngoc now sits among dozens of others who have been jailed for similar "crimes."

On October 5, 2016, a Ho Chi Minh City court reduced Ngoc's terms from five years to three. I understand that this is a comparatively light sentence for his crime. But any punishment of peaceful speech is cruel and creates a culture of fear. According to Reporters Without Borders' latest press freedom index, Vietnam's press freedom ranking is one of the 10 lowest in the world.

I urge you to stand up for honest speech and free this peaceful blogger. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
