Stop work requirement red tape for Medicaid: most recipients are already employed!

  • recipient: Governor Patrick Morrisey

Most Medicaid recipients already work or are exempt (e.g., caregivers, students, people with disabilities). These requirements create unnecessary red tape.
Work requirements have failed in other states: In Arkansas, nearly 18,000 people lost coverage in the first year, and there was no increase in employment.
Healthcare is a human right: No one should have to choose between a job and their health. These requirements will lead to delayed care, higher costs, and worse health outcomes.
West Virginia should focus on real solutions, like expanding Medicaid enrollment assistance, investing in job training, and improving access to healthcare.
