Stop the slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan

  • by: CATCA
  • recipient: Japanese government
Every year, Japan slaughters in their coastal towns (mostly in Taiji), around 23,000 to 25,000 dolphins and small whales. All this senseless massacre is done, because of the huge demand to provide dolphins to the aquarium industry worldwide and the swim with dolphin programs. The dolphins not chosen by the trainers from the aquariums, get slowly killed by the fishermen, including dolphin babies.

How else can you help the Japanese dolphins?
1)Watch the film "The Cove" now in cinemas in North America
2) Don't go to aquariums, nor participate in the swim with dolphin programs.
3) Want to help more? Go to our website: www.catcahelpanimals.org
(Check our last two newsletters (with the good International Whaling Commission news that we posted last month, and the whales and the dolphins section).
4) Tell others to sign this petition!
5) Want to sign on for our e-alert and e-newsletter to follow up this campaign in Taiji, Japan (and to help fight other animal cruelty/abuse issues, such as the seal hunt in Canada, whaling, so on)? Then contact us at info@catcahelpanimals.org to add you to our e-mail list.

To: Mr. Joji Morishita,  Commisioner of Japan at the International Whaling Commission

We the undersigned, urge your government to stop this atrocity in Taiji.

Stop killing these highly intelligent and sentient marine mammals.

1) Dolphins do not belong in aquariums, because it is cruel to keep a dolphin in a pool performing cheap tricks.
2) Is it worth it to kill all those not chosen dolphins? Dolphin and whale meat full with toxins, mercury and arsenic among other poisons, is sold to the Japanese people. In doing this, the Japanese people, specially the children can get serious health problems and even kill them.
3) Everybody knows that these dolphin drives are done because of the profit that the fishermen get with each dolphin sold to an aquarium.  But is this the only way that people in Taiji can survive? How do the other Japanese coastal towns survive without committing such an atrocity against nature?
4) If the dolphin drives stop in Taiji, we the NGO's from Canada and other countries, we would compromise to promote the beauty of the town of Taiji to attract tourism from all over the world to create a regular revenue to its inhabitants, so the fishermen would get a normal income source, without the bad name and reputation that Taiji and Japan has now worldwide.

Please, consider our pleas urging you to stop this slaughter now.

Thank you
