End the Use of Animals in UK Circuses

The UK Government is currently considering introducing a ban on wild animals in travelling circuses. In light of PETAs US expose of cruel training methods of elephants and the recent Great british Circus Tourusing performing elephants in the UK, there is at last a real opportunity to end the use of lions, tigers, elephants and other animals.

Animals in circuses are dying so that people can be entertained. Animals don't want to ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls or jump through rings of fire, but they have no choice. Trainers often use any means necessary %u2013 including beatings %u2013 to coerce animals into performing these unnatural acts. Animals used in circuses have usually been taken from the wild, where they once roamed free, or they were bred in captivity so that they could live a life of isolation and punishment.

The government agrees that letting things continue as they are is not an option but is considering a range of options, some of which fall short of a complete ban. It has just started a consultation period that ends in March, following which, changes to the law could be introduced within weeks.
We the undersigned disagree and are disgusted that the UK still uses animals in its circuses, we disagree with their cruel treatment and the life they live which is so far from that they deserve. We call for a complete ban on the use of animals in circuses and urge to British government to act now.
