Ban recreational fishing at Evergreen Brickworks

You may wonder why recreational fishing is even an allowed activity at Evergreen Brickworks. Truth is, there's not an excuse. This place serves as a home and habitat to wildlife and living beings. Some weeks ago, my family and I went there during the weekend. On that day, we found two kids fishing with hooks beside a waterbody. The kids caught a catfish. The hook stabbed right through the fish's mouth and was stuck as the fish kept bleeding. The hook wouldn't get out. The kids needed out help for multiple minutes in order to get it out, and as we tried and tried, the sharp hook just kept moving inside the fish's mouth. After minutes, my Mother and I removed it. But every week, I've found these kids coming back to fish more and more. I don't know if they come every single day.

This is not just about those two kids. Any fishing that takes place causes suffering to the fish, and other species might get caught even if the person did not intend to. Even while you have to return the fish to the water after catching them, this is a peril to fish and animals at Evergreen Brickworks.

Brickworks is a city property, so Evergreen doesn't have any control over rules and regulations and doesn't have control over changing this. Please sign to demand recreational fishing is banned, as this petition will be sent to city officials.

Responding to petition comments:
I wanted to address every comment individually, but there is not enough space to write within an update. I will address one comment here. I think that it's okay for people to fish if it is out of necessity to eat, unless you have other options, but not okay at all to do so at Brickworks. Brickworks is not a place where people live and depend solely on catching fish without any other alternative. No living being at BW should be caught for food nor fun by humans.
