We, the undersigned, demand that both the Congress and President of the United States affirm the gurantee of the United States Declaration of Independence that:
"We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Simply put, health care is a RIGHT, not a privilege. Since a right is meaningless if you must be able pay for it, denial of universal health care denies Life.
Just as the Supreme Court ruled many years ago that the right to a lawyer is meaningless if you can't afford one, we must now act to make health care available to all.
Just as individual states may not "opt out" of providing the right to a lawyer, no state must be allowed to opt out of providing to their citizens a public option to the predatory plans offered by private health insurance companies.
